BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan--401st Army Field Support Brigade Commander Col. Matthew J. Ferguson simulated being a vehicle, a document package and a radio Aug. 27 as he conducted a 'scrimmage' to take him step-by-step through the journey equipment takes once it is turned in at the Logistics Task Force Bagram Retrograde Processing Center for processing according to U.S. Army directives.
The scrimmage began with Lt. Col. Marvin L. Walker, 3-401st AFSBn commander, providing an overview of battalion operations in Bagram and at other locations. Walker discussed how each RPC was positioned and manned to handle the flow of equipment expected to arrive over the next several months. He described how battalion personnel sign for equipment and remove it from the unit property book, how it is tracked throughout the process and how it is prepared and staged for shipment in accordance with U.S. Army directives.
Ferguson asked probing questions at various points along his journey through the process. Soldiers, civilians and contractors had ready answers for his questions showing that they were knowledgeable on the processes and had either answered similar questions or resolved similar problems in the past.
The scrimmage was attended by brigade and battalion leaders and served as a rehearsal for a planned visit by Maj. Gen. Darrell K. Williams, commanding general 1st Theater Sustainment Command, and Command Sgt. Maj. Nathaniel J. Bartee.
