ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- Maj. Gen. Kevin O'Connell, commanding general of U.S. Army Sustainment Command, held a town hall meeting for ASC headquarters staff personnel in Heritage Hall, here, Aug. 27.

The 32-year Army veteran began by introducing himself and his family, then explained the ASC mission: provide globally responsive strategic logistics capability and materiel readiness to enable combatant commanders to conduct the full range of military operations. He said that every ASC employee should see themselves as contributors to that mission.

O'Connell also laid out his priorities: support deployed forces, provide globally responsive readiness, build and empower leaders, take care of people and families, and strengthen the command climate.

He said the Sexual Harassment Assault Response Program will always be the first priority.

The general spoke about the importance of communication and working to build the team.

"I'm an open communicator," O'Connell said. "I'm going to be accessible and approachable.

"I'm proud to be your CG (commanding general), and I'm happy to be back in this community."

O'Connell will hold a similar town hall meeting via video teleconference with ASC's seven Army Field Support Brigades positioned around the world, Aug. 28.
