'General' change at the 80th Training Command (TASS)

Fort Lee Va. - Maj. Gen. Marcia M. Anderson acting assistant chief and deputy chief, U.S. Army Reserve, is scheduled to sequentially administer two ceremonies that will change the leadership of the 80th Training Command (TASS), the third largest command organization in the Army Reserve headquartered in Richmond, Va., August 23.

During the first ceremony, Anderson will promote Brig. Gen. A. C. Roper to the rank of major general at the Fort Lee Quarter Master Museum at 8:45 a.m.

Anderson will then transfer leadership of the 80th TC from the current commander, Maj. Gen. Bill Gerety, over to Roper during a Change of Command Ceremony at the Fort Lee Field House at 10 a.m. This formal procedure is a time-honored tradition signifying the transition of responsibility between commanders.

Gerety, who as a civilian is the president and chief executive officer, of Dataline LLC, McLean, Va., and president of Amber Waves Marketing, Inc, Pasadena, Md., commanded the 80th TC, , from August 2011 through August 2014. Under his leadership, the 80th TC's three subordinate divisions and one logistical support brigade trained more than 30,000 Soldiers annually.

Roper's previous assignment is commander of the 415th Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Brigade headquartered in Greenville, S.C., the Army Reserve's only CBRN brigade. In his civilian capacity, Roper is the Birmingham, Ala. police chief.
