Spotlight on ... Juan S. Ortiz, Training Coordinator, 410th Contracting Support Brigade, Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas

Describe your current position: I am the training coordinator for the 410th CSB. I am responsible for the mandatory training, schools, Career Acquisition Personnel and Position Management Information System, Total Employee Development System, Digital Training Management System, Unit Status Report, Semi and Annual Training Briefs, Army Training Requirements and Resources System, and the Civilian Human Resources Training Application System to name a few.

Describe your professional background: I retired as the U.S. Army South first sergeant after 20 years of military service. I have a bachelor's degree from Mountain State University, West Virginia, and I have taken classes toward my master's degree.

Tell us more: I call Selma, Texas, home. I have been married to my beautiful wife, Rochelle for 15 years and we have three beautiful daughters; Autumn (14), Catalina (10), and Natalie (6). I love to spend time with my family and travel with them. I also like to go fast in my Mustang Shelby GT500 (legally of course) at the race track and take hill country cruises.

How does your job support the Soldier: My job is to ensure the readiness of all personnel, both military and civilian, within the brigade. I ensure training requirements are current and individuals and teams are ready to deploy at a moment's notice. I enjoy taking care of Soldiers and love being able to assist them with getting enrolled in courses that will help them get certified in the military contracting profession.
