RDECOM director gets new assignment

Dale Ormond, director of the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., has been assigned to a new position.

Ormond will be Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Plans and Resources), Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Manpower and Reserve Affairs), Washington, D.C. The assignment is effective Oct. 15.

The command Ormond is leaving, also known as RDECOM, is the parent command of the largest organization at Picatinny Arsenal, the Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center. In a message to the RDECOM workforce, Ormond said in part:

"While this transition is earlier than I expected, the decision is keeping with the Department's enterprise approach of maintaining a cadre of enterprise-wide SES leaders and basically mirrors many of the characteristics and principles associated with management of our general officer process.

"I know that you will continue to do great things for this Army and for this command. I have wholeheartedly enjoyed serving you, a world-class workforce, as the director of RDECOM. I truly believe in the potential and capability of this enterprise as a national asset. What you do everyday directly empowers, unburdens and protects Soldiers and because of that, and you have the best job in the world."
