ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- Mr. David Nelson, a general engineer, was recognized as the recipient of the Maj. Gen. John C. Raaen, Jr., Historical Achievement Award at the Joint Munitions Command headquarters town hall, here, Aug 7.

Brig. Gen. Kristin K. French, JMC commanding general, provided a brief biography of Nelson's 32-year career and presented the award to recognize his achievements in ammunition production management.

The Maj. Gen. John C. Raaen, Jr., Historical Achievement Award is bestowed annually to a JMC employee who best demonstrates a well-rounded career, extraordinary accomplishments and service to the warfighter.

Nelson's career exemplifies "a significant contribution in service to the U.S. Army's ammunition mission which exceeded expectations," said French.

The award is named after retired Maj. Gen. John Carpenter Raaen, Jr., who experienced a long and distinguished career in the United States Army. It is the most prestigious annual award presented by the JMC commanding general. Raaen's career exemplified the holistic ammunition professional, who was active in research and development, procurement, production, maintenance, storage and stockpile management.

"I am genuinely humbled and honored to be a recipient of this award," said Nelson. "I am truly blessed to work with a great group of people over 32 years. Thank you."

Nelson's current primary duties include working on policies and procedures as well as maintaining configuration management, and managing PRODSTAT-Refresh, the ammunition enterprise production database. PRODSTAT-Refresh is an automated data system that maintains contract, schedule, acceptance, and delivery information for ammunition requirements received by the Joint Munitions Command.

Nelson's most recent contributions include the successful deployment of the Logistics Modernization Program with respect to production orders. Within LMP, he has developed an understanding of the interrelationships of the different business areas and has coordinated actions with the appropriate staff members within the ammunition community, involving multiple disciplines and business processes. He has developed a comprehensive overview of the entire ammunition life cycle. Production and senior staff continually rely upon Nelson to deliver ammunitions at the right place and time to the warfighter.

JMC produces small-, medium- and large-caliber ammunition items for the Department of Defense. JMC is the logistics integrator for life-cycle management of ammunition and provides a global presence of technical support to service members wherever they are stationed or deployed.
