Staff Sgt. Chris Mackie, a former Army Contracting Command-New Jersey contingency contracting officer currently deployed to Camp Vance, Afghanistan, wanted to honor ACC-NJ contracting professionals during his deployment in Afghanistan.

As a tribute to his former co-workers, Mackie requested an American flag be flown at Camp Vance to honor the unit. After the flag was raised and honors were presented, the flag was lowered, folded with honors then shipped to ACC-NJ.

"I wanted it flown as a symbol of mission accomplishment. ACC-NJ has trained and deployed CCOs around the world," said Mackie. "This is my way of saying thank you (to them). Without their dedication to the mission of training contingency contracting officers, I wouldn't have been successful over here as a contracting officer."

Mackie said he purchased the flag from the local post exchange and requested the flag be flown on the nation's birthday.

The flag and certificate were shipped to the ACC-NJ media and training facility at Picatinny.
