CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait -- The 402nd Army Field Support Brigade conducted a change of command and relinquishment of responsibility ceremony here July 10.
Maj. Gen. John Wharton, commanding general, Army Sustainment Command, presided over the ceremony that saw Col. James Kinkade, pass the brigade mantle to incoming commander, Col. Robert Dawson.
In addition, Command Sgt. Maj. Ronald Ferdinand relinquished his responsibility as the 402nd AFSB's senior enlisted adviser. Command Sgt. Maj. Cheryl Greene assumed responsibility as the 402nd AFSB's senior enlisted adviser in a ceremony here July 30.
Wharton commended Kinkade and his staff for a job well done.
"Using Kuwait as an ISB [intermediate staging base], you and your team have been great," Wharton said. "There has never been a mission shortfall."
Kinkade departed for his next assignment as director of the Logistics Initiatives Group for Headquarters, Department of the Army G4. Ferdinand's next position will be as commandant of the Army's Noncommissioned Officer Academy at Fort Richardson, Alaska.
Kinkade echoed Wharton's comments when he spoke about Dawson. "Andy [Dawson] is a great choice to lead the team," he said.
Dawson, a native of Richmond, Va., arrives at the 402nd AFSB from the Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pa.
Dawson, who also holds a master of strategic studies from the Army War College, has a wealth of knowledge, which will be vital in taking the 402nd AFSB to the next level Wharton said.
"Dawson is the right person to build on Kinkade's success," he said.
"The brigade has a tremendous reputation and I look forward to representing the command," Dawson said, adding he is looking forward to the experience.
