Cicely Simmons
412th Contracting Support Brigade, Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas

Describe your current position:
I am a procurement analyst responsible for providing oversight and assistance to six field offices assigned to the 412th CSB. I review acquisition packages at all stages to ensure compliance with procurement laws, regulations, policies and procedures, and to ensure the use of sound business and management practices. I am also responsible for a variety of metrics and taskers, provide training, and still hold an active contracting warrant.

Describe your passion for the job:
I started in the Federal Career Intern Program for NASA after graduating from college and just fell into procurement and was able to find my niche. I enjoy the fact the every day is different and new and being able to make a direct impact on the lives of Soldiers.

Where do you call home; what do you do in your spare time?
I was born and raised in Florida. I love to travel and cook.

How does your job support the Soldier?
I recently completed the DOD Executive Leadership Development Program. It was a great success in achieving its bedrock objectives: know yourself, express yourself, build teams, manage organizations, and understand DOD and the enterprise. Training with the different components of DOD and the Department of State enabled me and my classmates to have a better understanding of DOD, expose us to the joint and strategic environments and prepare us to help lead the historic transformation of DOD as it prepares for the complex threats of today and tomorrow. Our decisions as leaders directly affect the lives of those who serve in uniform, and after completing this program, there is a real face and a name with that uniform. Through intense study, we learned their history. But it was only by walking alongside these men and women -- sweating under the gear they wear, training on the equipment they fight with, and hearing their concerns firsthand -- that we really began to understand the challenges they face. By completing this program, I can better relate to the challenges and experiences our 51Cs have experienced and also understand how important training and sustainment of readiness is across all of DOD.

What would you like others to know about you?
I truly enjoy my job as a contracting professional and am highly committed to my profession and will continue to provide accurate business advice to my customers, both internal and external.
