As the Army Contracting Command's expeditionary mission increases, the ACC Deputy Chief of Staff, Human Capital G-1, says the need for deployable civilians is increasing.

"The Army Contracting Command will be assuming a very large contracting mission in Kuwait, Qatar and Afghanistan in the future as the Defense Contract Management Agency transitions out of the CENTCOM area of operation," said Col. Richard Shepard, ACC G-1. "There is a considerable need for deployable civilians, particularly those with contracting expertise. As we move from combat operations to sustainment operations, our civilian workforce has the expertise in contracting and procurement operations that are vital to supporting sustainment operations in the CENTCOM AOR."

Shepard said civilians interested in deploying can apply through the command's Deployable Cadre Program.

According to Shepard, the program assists in identifying and deploying civilian contracting and quality assurance volunteers in support of contracting requirements around the globe. Deploying cadre members provide contract management skills and expertise in operations beyond the scope of the command's day-to-day mission including training exercises, natural disasters and high-visibility priorities across the command.

"Deployments are a great opportunity for career development, regardless of your career field," Shepard said. "These overseas assignments offer the contracting professional a rare opportunity to grow both personally and professionally, while furthering the Army's mission to bring peace and stability to war-torn nations. Deployments prepare employees to assume leadership positions in the future. Additionally, there are financial incentives built into the program to encourage employees to volunteer for deployments."
