GRAFENWOEHR, Germany -- Whether you're retiring or shifting gears to a new career, the U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria Transition Center has information you'll need.

The following is a short description of the Transition Center briefings and upcoming dates for those briefings.

Preseparation briefing
The preseparation briefing offers Soldiers and family members the opportunity to receive important information concerning transition from active duty from agencies such as the Transition Center, Separation Finance, Soldier for Life, Education Center and the Central Processing Facility. These offices will provide information related clearing.

AR 635-10, Processing Personnel for Separation, requires a preseparation briefing to be conducted no later than 90 days before transition date for honorably transitioning Soldiers (not retirees). Army Europe Regulation 612-1 also requires a separation briefing.

CSB/REDUX briefing
The National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 200 significantly changed the retirement pay system for those Soldiers who entered the armed services on or after Aug. 1, 1986. As of Oct. 1, 1999, these Soldiers are now covered by the High-3 Retired pay System.

However, these Soldiers may now elect, upon completion of 15 years of active duty, to receive a $30,000 Career Status Bonus (CSB), in which case they will again be covered under the REDUX retired pay system.

The CSB/REDUX briefing offers comprehensive information on all aspects of the program. Soldiers reaching 14.5 years of active duty should attend this informative presentation.

Pre-retirement briefings
Soldiers and their families need to plan their military retirement long before the application for retirement is submitted. Soldiers and family members should attend a preretirement briefing at least once prior to retirement.

The information provided is designed to help you prepare for retirement and receive important information from agencies such as the Transition Center, Transportation, Separation Finance, MPD, Housing, Customs, ACAP, Education Center and the Central Processing Facility.

Soldiers are encouraged to bring their spouse as the information provided will help both navigate the retirement process.
