Ten high school students toured Picatinny Arsenal on July 23 as part of an annual event provided through New Jersey Governor's School of Engineering and Technology. The tour was hosted by the U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) at Picatinny Arsenal, N.J.
Students visited several of the arsenal's facilities, including ARDEC's Innovation Lab, the Gaming, Interactive Technology and Multimedia Division, and the Manufacturing Technology Center. The students also received overviews on ARDEC's mission to support the Warfighter, remote weapons technologies at the Armament Integration Facility, and the Additive Manufacturing Facility.
New Jersey Governor's School of Engineering & Technology is a four-week, educational summer program that brings together New Jersey's most talented and motivated high school students to study math, technology, science, and engineering at Rutgers University's School of Engineering in Piscataway, N.J.
During the program, students take five academic courses, free of grades and official credit, and participate in workshops, visit local corporations, and engage in activities that help them connect with professors and professionals with engineering, technology, mathematics, and scientific careers. Students also collaborate with two to four other students on a novel research project, which is presented at Rutgers' research symposium toward the end of the program.
All applicants are nominated by their high school and classes are offered at no cost to the families. However, students must be in their junior year of high school by the time their application is submitted.
