REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- A U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command officer said farewell to his team, coworkers and friends recently.

Col. Bennie J. Pokemire, SMDC deputy chief of staff, G-6, retired during a ceremony at the Von Braun III auditorium on Redstone Arsenal July 25.

During the ceremony Pokemire received the Legion of Merit, Noble Patron of Space, an American flag, a certificate of appreciation from the president, a three-star note from SMDC's commanding general, and a certificate of retirement and pin.

Pokemire retires with 26 years of active duty service.
