WASHINGTON (July 24, 2014)-- The U.S. Army transitions about 130,000 American Soldiers from military service to civilian life annually. To this end, Army leaders continue to partner with community and industry leaders to ensure Soldiers and their Families are "career ready" and have access to established networks of enablers for healthcare, education and employment services prior to Active Duty service separation.
Tuesday, July 29, Deputy Chief of Staff G-1 Lt. Gen. Howard B. Bromberg joined by Lynn A. Dugle, Raytheon Company Vice President, and Steve Hill, General Motors Vice President, will kick-off the "Shifting Gears" Automotive Technician Training Program during a proclamation signing beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the Pentagon Courtyard.
"Shifting Gears" is a multi-year initiative between GM and Raytheon and the U.S. Army to train Soldiers for service technician positions at GM dealerships post military service. This initiative is aligned under the Army's Soldier For Life Program, whose mission is to foster and sustain support services (e.g. education, health, retirement, employment services) for Soldiers during every phase of the Soldier Life Cycle (e.g. initial entree, military service, transition and retirement).
Following the completion of remarks and proclamation signing, a 10-minute presser will be conducted for media to direct questions to the "Shifting Gears" panel.
Media interested in covering this event must RSVP with the Army Public Affairs office no later than 4 p.m., Monday, July 28. Confirmations for media attendance should be forwarded to Paul Prince via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org and/or to "Hank" Minitrez at email@example.com.
