OKINAWA, Japan (July 18, 2014) -- On July 8 the forecasted category five typhoon Neoguri hit Okinawa; however, during the evening hours before the typhoon reached shore, it was downgraded to category three.

U.S. Army Garrison Okinawa base, formally named Torii Station, sustained sufficient damage to include uprooted trees, vegetation strewed across much of the installation, broken windows, beach erosion and flooding in some low lying areas.

Typhoon Neoguri remained in the area for approximately 30 hours causing power outages in and around the installation. On July 9 at the installation went back into TCCOR Storm Watch.
