Meghan Custer is the 2104 recipient of the Marine Corps' Commander's Excellence in Acquisition Support Award.

Custer, chief, Light Armored Vehicle Contracting group, Army Contracting Command-Warren, Michigan, received the award for significantly improving the working relationship between the ACC-Warren, the program manager for the Light Armored Vehicle and the Marine Corps Systems Command.

The annual award is presented to someone from an external agency who exemplifies extraordinary acquisition support to a Marine Corps Systems Command acquisition program or activity.

"To be selected for a Marine Corps Award while working for an Army command is definitely an honor," said Custer, who was quick to give credit to the contracting personnel working in her group. "The award is without a doubt a reflection of the hard work and dedication of each member of the LAV Contracting Group."

The award citation reads: "For professional achievement in the outstanding support you provided to Marine Corps Systems Command, Quantico, Virginia, during 2013. Your many efforts while employed with the United States Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command contributed to the successful mission accomplishment of Marine Corps Systems Command. Your resourcefulness, initiative and selfless dedication to duty reflected great credit upon you and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Marine Corps."

Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Frank L. Kelley, former commander, MCSC, presented the award to Ms. Custer in a July 9th ceremony at Quantico.

"I'm very happy for Meghan and proud of the recognition she's received from the Marine Corps. It could not have gone to a more deserving person," said John Velliky, chief, Stryker/LAV Contracting Division, specifically noting her efforts on the antitank modernization program source selection as well as the recently awarded Mobility and Obsolescence Program, which is critical to upgrading the LAV fleet.

"She has impressed everyone who has worked with her on these and other programs, making an extremely positive impact during her time in the LAV Program Manager's Office. Her professionalism when coupled with her drive sets a standard for others to emulate," added Velliky.
