PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. -- Norbert Weber (left), deputy director of research & technology from the Armament Directorate of the Germany Federal Ministry of Defence speaks with Barbara Machak (right), acting director of the U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) and Chris Grassano (second from right), chief of staff for the Program Executive Office for Ammunition, here on July 10.

With Weber is Bernhard Biermann (second from left) from the German Ministry of Defence. Bierman was an exchange engineer from the German MoD to ARDEC, Picatinny, from January 2003 to January 2004. At the time, Biermann worked in ARDEC's Acoustic and Networked Sensors Division to develop methods for the detection and classification of air bursting rounds and the required air burst location algorithms.

Jochen Siebeneicher (third from left) is from the Bundesamt Fur Ausrustung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr (BAAINBw), which in English translates to "Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support."

Dr. Hans Wolf Sunnemann (fourth from left) is currently the German liaisonofficer to ARDEC. By interacting with ARDEC and with the ARDEC International Office, the German liaison officers gain first-hand knowledge of ARDEC operations which facilitates cooperation between ARDEC and BAAINBw.
