ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. -- Col. Michael J. Rogers, Army Contracting Command-Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, was selected as the Blacks in Government Meritorious Service Award recipient.
Rogers, ACC-APG military deputy to the executive director and chief of staff, will receive the award during the 36th Annual BIG National Training Conference later this month in Las Vegas.
"I am truly honored to be selected for the BIG Meritorious Service Award," said Rogers, a Detroit native. "Throughout my military career, I've been guided by the principles to 'dream big, train well, and emerge to greater heights,' which is also the theme for this year's BIG conference."
According to the award criteria, it honors Department of Defense military or civilian employees who serve as role models in promoting the tenets of human rights and equal opportunity. Nominees for the award must also display exceptional character representative of an outstanding leader and role model.
Rogers was nominated for the award by Bryon J. Young, ACC-APG's executive director.
"Col. Rogers' leadership and core values are shining examples of what the BIG Meritorious Service Award represents," Young said. "He promotes the development of African Americans within the Army and is committed to the advancement of minorities and women through empowerment and growth opportunities."
Rogers began his military career in 1986 within the medical service corps serving in various leadership positions stateside as well as Korea, Somalia, Germany, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. In June 2000, he completed the procurement internship at Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, Georgia, and immediately following he served as chief of the Europe Regional Medical Command Contracting Office in Landstuhl, Germany, and then as director of contracting at North Atlantic Regional Medical Center at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C. He has worked in various contracting and leadership positions at the Army, Joint, and Office of the Secretary of Defense levels. He established a National Contract Management Association Chapter in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, while stationed there.
