SMDC Directed Energy chief scientist retires after 42 years
Richard P. DeFatta, director, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command Technical Center Emerging Technology Directorate, pins a retirement pin on Dr. Brian R. Strickland, Directed Energy Applications chief scientist, USASMDC/ARSTRAT Tech Center, during a ceremony June 23 at the command's Redstone Arsenal, Ala., headquarters. Strickland began his career with the Army as a cooperative education student in May 1972. He retires with 42 years of service.

REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- A U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command civilian prepares for life's next step.

Dr. Brian R. Strickland, Directed Energy Applications chief scientist, retired during a ceremony at the command's Redstone Arsenal headquarters June 23.

During the ceremony Strickland received the an American flag, a three-star note, and a certificate of retirement and pin. He will receive an award at a later date.

Strickland retires with 42 years of service.
