ILLESHEIM, Germany (July 8, 2014) -- USAG Ansbach Storck Barracks Chapel Community hosted the International Spy Academy-themed Vacation Bible School from June 23 through 27.

One hundred and fifteen children, ranging from pre-school to fifth grade, participated in the event.

The USAG Ansbach Religious Support Office provided oversight and support to both Catholic and Protestant religious education coordinators, who collaborated on the event. Together, the coordinators planned, resourced, promoted, and executed this event.

The coordinators brought together and trained 73 vetted or line-of-sight volunteers. This volunteer force provided an estimated 2,600 hours of service; whether setting up or tearing down equipment, teaching, providing crafts, leading games, corralling children, handling or serving snacks, or pumping these "Spy Kids" up during the opening and closing rallies.

In addition, the event attracted eight volunteers and seven participants from the host nation. Twenty-one bilingual volunteers and participants worked to strengthen alliances between USAG Ansbach and the host-nation community.

The Spy Academy curriculum afforded each child the opportunity to demonstrate goodwill internationally through the Children's Hunger Fund. One quarter funded one meal for a hungry child, and the children of the USAG Ansbach community funded approximately 2,300 meals.
