The Human Intelligence Training -- Joint Center of Excellence has begun recognizing the Army honor graduates of its Source Operations Course and the Defense Advanced Tradecraft Course with the Col. KB Reid Human Intelligence Award.

The top U.S. Army student, military or Civilian, who exceeds course standards receives the KB Reid HUMINT Award, named in honor of deceased U.S. Army Col. Kurush Bharucha-Reid.

The first five recipients of the new award are Capt. Todd Miguel, Capt. Robert Hammond, 1st Lt. Janie D'Amato, Staff Sgt. Eric Hack and Spc. Marc Phelps. KB Reid HUMINT Award recipients will be recommended for attendance to the next higher level of HUMINT training.

Col. Kurush Bharucha-Reid, known to most as KB, enlisted in the Army in 1973 under the Special Forces enlistment option. In 1983, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in Military Intelligence. In 1987, then Capt. Bharucha-Reid was selected for membership into the Military Intelligence Excepted Career (Great Skill) Program, a sensitive program which requires a rigorous screening and selection process.

Bharucha-Reid served the next 23 years in some of the most challenging and sensitive Army military intelligence assignments. His final assignment was as the commander of the U.S. Army Field Support Center at Fort Meade, Maryland. It was during this assignment that he lost his long battle with pancreatic cancer. Bharucha-Reid was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery Sept. 9, 2010.

To be considered for the KB Reid HUMINT Award, Army personnel must exceed course standards set by the Student Evaluation Plan for both the Source Operations Course and the Defense Advanced Tradecraft Course. When more than one student exceeds course standards, an internal panel will make a recommendation for Distinguished Honor Graduate based on established criteria.
