ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., -- Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Dagon assumed command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District June 26, 2014, during a formal change of command ceremony at the District headquarters. The purpose of a change of command ceremony is to emphasize the continuity of leadership and unit identity, despite the change in individual authority.
The District's area of responsibility includes the entire state of New Mexico, as well as portions of southern Colorado and far west Texas. The District performs design, construction and operations and maintenance services for three Air Force bases; conducts a robust civil works program; and operates and maintains nine dams.
Prior to assuming command of the Albuquerque District, Lt. Col. Dagon served as Chief of Construction with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency at Kirtland Air Force Base, NM. Previous duty assignments include Friedberg, Germany; Giessen, Germany; Bosnia; Kuwait; and Anbar Province, Iraq.
Lt. Col. Dagon graduated and earned his commission from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1996 with a Bachelor's of Science in Environmental Science. He has a Master's in Public Policy Administration from the University of Missouri at St. Louis and a Master of Science in Construction Management from the University of Washington. His military education includes the Engineer Officer Basic and Captain's Career Courses, Combined Arms Services Staff School, and the Command and General Staff School.
Lt. Col. Dagon is no stranger to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, having served as the Deputy District Commander at the Nashville District; Deputy Resident Engineer at Ft. Myer, VA; and Deputy District Engineer for Support Operations, Baltimore District.
Lieutenant Colonel Dagon is joined by his wife, Emily, and son.
