ROSE BARRACKS, Germany -- The senior enlisted advisor for the U.S. Army, Sgt. Maj. of the Army Raymond F. Chandler III, visited Troopers and leaders assigned to the 2d Cavalry Regiment July 1, 2014, at Rose Barracks, Germany.
The day's visit began when Chandler arrived in a UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopter and being greeted by senior leaders of the Regiment, U.S. Army Europe and U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria.
Chandler visited noncommissioned officers attending the Advanced Leader Course at Tower Barracks and held a teleconference with other ALC classes held at other bases throughout USAREUR to answer questions and concerns they might have pertaining to changes being made within the ranks.
Chandler later observed a number of historic displays at the 2 CR Reed Museum, an establishment reconstructed to preserve artifacts representing the history of the Regiment.
During his visit to the museum Chandler donated his desert combat uniform to be cased and viewed within the museum's historical archives. Chandler was then inducted into the Honorary Squadron of the 2d Regiment of Dragoons, an honor bestowed upon those who have serve honorably while assigned to 2 CR. Mrs. Jeanne Chandler, wife of the Sgt. Maj. of the Army, was also inducted into the order of the Fleur-de-lis, an honor meant to commemorate a military spouse's dedication, support and sacrifice to the Regiment's mission in support of the United States of America.
Following the honors, Chandler attended a luncheon with Troopers and leaders with the Regiment at the Stryker Inn dining facility where he addressed concerns and spoke about upcoming changes being made within the Army.
Before ending the visit, he spoke to leaders and Troopers expressing his gratitude for being inducted into the honorary squadron.
"Thank you for this honor I was not expecting this at all," said Chandler. "This is a huge honor for me. I have never had anything like this happen to me in my career. Thank you for what you do and what you continue to do and for your troopers who carry the heritage and the honor of being called Dragoons."
