Soldiers from the 409th Contacting Support Brigade at Hatzor Air Base, Israel, in support of Juniper Cobra 2014 saved the exercise two thirds of the initial contracting cost estimate.
"We were able to save nearly $400,000 of the $600,000 initial estimate due to extensive market research, enhanced competition, and expert requirement definition," said Sgt. 1st Class John Hickman, contracting specialist, 409th CSB.
According to Col. William J. Bailey, 409th CSB commander, this is a cost saving and not a cost avoidance.
Juniper Cobra is a U.S. Army Europe command bi-annual exercise designed to strengthen the working relationship and international capabilities in defense of Israel.
"Anytime you get to foster a relationship with Israel, that's an opportunity," said Hickman. "You can glean something from that experience. It's always beneficial and I'm constantly learning."
The 409th CSB provided contracting support to include life support services, air conditioning units, generators, laundry services, personnel transportation and more.
