GRAFENWOEHR, Germany -- As a salute to Independence Day, U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria will host a Fourth of July Hometown Celebration across its three communities with festivities ranging from casual gatherings to barbecues and fireworks.

The event promises to be a full day of family fun, no matter where you live.

In Hohenfels, the fun starts with a 5K Freedom Run, July 3, at the Community Activity Center at 9 a.m. All ages are welcome.

The next day, July Fourth, the Hohenfels Festplatz will start humming at 6 p.m., while Garmisch community members will gather at the Sheridan Barracks Community Chapel starting at 7 p.m.

In Tower Barracks, July Fourth will kick off at 7 a.m. with an Independence Day 5K Fun Run at the Physical Fitness Center, Building 170.

Next, catch a few games at the softball complex (behind the Physical Fitness Center) during the Invitational Softball Tournament, which begins at 10 a.m. and runs through the weekend.

The deadline for teams to sign up was June 27; contact the Tower Barracks or Rose Barracks physical fitness centers.

The parade field will come to life starting at 6 p.m. with face painting, balloon twisting and a batting cage, but get there early to reserve the prime real estate. DJ MCM will entertain the masses with a variety of music.

Patriots can bring their own picnics, and food and beverages will also be available for sale on the parade field. In addition, the bowling center (next to Burger King) will be open in case you want to bowl a few frames while you wait for the fireworks to start around 10:30 p.m.
