ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- The U.S. Army's Joint Munitions Command hosted a Quality Assurance Specialist Ammunition Surveillance program event here, June 16--19, to attend training on user inspection devices and missile defense management systems.
The QASAS program provides quality assurance and logistics functions related to the inspection, storage, receiving, issuing, testing and classification of U.S. Army ammunitions and explosives.
QASAS Senior Management Leaders from JMC's Headquarters in Rock Island, their 14 installations across the country, and various commands from around the world, had an opportunity to "train, interact and share ideas on a path forward," said Tom Enricco, QASAS Program Manager, who is located at McAlester Army Ammunition Plant (JMC South).
The senior management training is conducted annually to maintain current awareness of ammunition quality assurance issues.
"I appreciate all the hands-on ammunition work you do," said Patricia Huber, JMC deputy to the commander.
Huber also serves as the QASAS career program Functional Chief Representative. The FCR provides broad program operating policy guidance, direction and oversees career program management.
During the training, Huber led a discussion concerning the QASAS career program, recruiting interns and upcoming training opportunities. She also led discussions focused on reviewing existing ammunition surveillance programs and identifying new items to manage.
Due to ammunition's inherent hazards, personnel required to manage the ammunition stockpile must be knowledgeable of its special properties, characteristics and requirements. The QASAS career program is intended to provide a structured and comprehensive plan for personnel who perform ammunition surveillance functions, which enhance the quality, reliability, safety and efficiency of the Army's ammunition mission.
In addition, Huber was provided a certificate that recognized her as an honorary QASAS member. "We wanted to thank her for continued support on behalf of the QASAS program," said Enricco.
JMC produces small-, medium- and large-caliber ammunition items for the Department of Defense. JMC is the logistics integrator for life-cycle management of ammunition and provides a global presence of technical support to U.S. combat units wherever they are stationed or deployed. QASAS support commanders worldwide in assuring the quality and safety of the DoD ammunition stockpile, from cradle to grave, during peacetime, wartime and operations other than war.
