JOINT BASE MYER-HENDERSON HALL, Va. (June 20, 2014) -- Nearly 2,000 visitors to the Nation's Capital joined their host, Lt. Gen. William T. Grisoli, Director of the Army Staff, in celebrating the Army's 239th birthday as they watched Twilight Tattoo, a high-energy military spectacular featuring Soldiers from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), and the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own," here, Wednesday.

Grisoli, as the Director of the Army Staff, is responsible for integrating and synchronizing the work of the Office of the Secretary and the Army Staff so that they meet the goals and priorities of the Secretary of the Army.

The Army's birthday celebrations began this year in Washington, D.C., at Fort Lesley J. McNair, with a traditional Army cake-cutting ceremony hosted by the Under Secretary of the Army Brad Carson. Army celebrations have taken place all over the globe, as a sign of unity, respect and support for all Soldiers, past and present.
