During the outbreak of World War II, Mildred (Millie) Hatch Long, left her small Skull Valley, Utah, ranch and moved to Tooele. Along with her sisters, Millie went to work at Tooele Army Depot as the men went off to war. She became the depot's first woman crane operator, loading vehicles on flat cars for shipments for the war effort. Millie worked in several positions throughout the depot and retired with 41 successful years of federal service.

Millie passed away at her home on May 30, 2014.
