Vietnam War Vets honored at Twilight Tattoo
June 12, 2014
JOINT BASE MYER-HENDERSON HALL (June 11, 2014) -- Vietnam veterans from across the country joined their host for the evening, the Honorable Brad Carson, Under Secretary of the Army, and watched Twilight Tattoo, a high energy military spectacular featuring Soldiers from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) and the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own."
Last month, President Barack Obama proclaimed 28 May 2012 through November 11, 2025 as the period for the Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War.
The objectives of the commemoration include highlighting the service of the Armed Forces during the Vietnam War, recognizing the contributions and sacrifices made by the allies of the United States during the war and to thank and honor the veterans themselves, including personnel who were held as prisoners of war or listed as missing in action, for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the United States.
Retired Army Major Patrick A. Tiessonniere participated in the show as the representative of all Vietnam veterans. Tiessonniere currently works for the U.S. Army Military District of Washington, at Fort Lesley J. McNair.
Twilight Tattoo is produced by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington and is an hour-long, live-action military pageant that provides audiences from around the world a glimpse into American history through performances by the U.S. Army Blues, vocalists from the U.S. Army Band Downrange, the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, and the U.S. Army Drill Team.
