PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The top noncommissioned officer of the Army's 1st Space Brigade changed hands June 6 in a ceremony at Peterson Air Force Base.

Command Sgt. Maj. Norriel Fahie succeeded Command Sgt. Maj. Thomas Eagan.

Fahie previously was assigned to the Army Support Activity, Soto Cano Airbase, Honduras. He was born in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, and joined the Army in 1990.

"I am committed to pursue actions, shape thinking and pursue the greater good for this command and the Army," Fahie said.

The 1st Space Brigade is the Army's only space brigade and has three battalions manned by active duty, Army Reserve and Army National Guard Soldiers. It is a component of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command.

Brigade commander Col. James Meisinger noted that the unit has seven mission areas and 16 global locations.

"You will come to understand space and have the utmost respect for the Soldiers of this command," Meisinger said to Fahie.

Eagan also presented some advice to his successor. "Learn the brigade," he said. "Learn the Soldiers, civilians and families. Serve the brigade and leave the brigade better than you found it."

Eagan received the Legion of Merit and Order of St. Dominic prior to the Change of Responsibility. His next assignment is to the Fires Center of Excellence at Fort Sill, Okla.
