MADISON, Ala. (June 9, 2014) -- This year at band camp, the U.S. Army Materiel Command band's Sonic Fusion performed to inspire musicianship among students June 9 at James Clemens High School in Madison, Alabama.

Students waved cell phones and clapped in sync to tunes like Pharrell with a jazz twist during the afternoon performance.

Staff Sgt. Richard Scarlett, lead vocalist of Sonic Fusion, had one message for the students and that was to get a goal in mind and never give up.

Scarlett always had hopes of working in music and even had a record deal at one point. Little did he know music would come full circle in his life. After deployments and working in two different job series, the Army allowed him the opportunity to audition as a lead vocalist, he said.

"I've heard a lot of no's in my lifetime, but if you get a goal in mind and never give up you will eventually get a yes," said Scarlett.

The Madison Music Camp is an educational band camp for middle school students and upcoming 9th grade students. Three camps occur simultaneously - a camp for beginners, a camp for students with at least one year of playing experience, and a choir camp.

Participating schools included: Hartselle Jr. High School, Madison Band Supply, St. Johns Catholic School, Meridianville Middle School, Westminister Christian Academy, Monrovia Middle School, and Bob Jones High School.

Sonic Fusion is a music group within the AMC band that offers a mix of top 40, R&B, Hip Hop and jazz with a sound and groove that showcases the infinite possibilities of music.
