ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Rock Island Arsenal Welcome Club honored 17 college-bound students with scholarships during a luncheon at the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Clubhouse on May 21.

A total of nearly $20,000 was awarded to 17 students scheduled to attend classes this fall. Scholarships were in the amounts of $1,000 to $1,500.

Maj. Gen. John Wharton, commanding general, U.S. Army Sustainment Command, presented certificates to the scholarship recipients that highlighted their selection for the merit awards.

Students receiving RIA Welcome Club scholarships are: Ashley Beausoleil, Megan Beck, Neko Beserra, Ryan Blunk, Jacqueline Colarusso, Mackenzie Donahue, Jessica Green, Keiana Holleman, Amani Kirby, Morgan Murphy, Robin Murphy, Nicholas Niles, Janita Pegram, Abigail Perry, Anthony Pham, Kenyon Thomas and Breyana Williams.

The purpose of the RIA Welcome Club is to develop and foster a spirit of the Quad Cities Area community responsibility at RIA by providing opportunities for social, cultural and creative pursuits and to support worthwhile service and community projects.
