Describe your current position
I am a contingency contracting officer for a modular deployable contingency contracting team, the 635th Contingency Contracting Team, Mission and Installation Contracting Command-Fort Bliss, Texas, serving as division chief for Post-Award and as the 919th Contingency Contracting Battalion executive officer. We provide both installation and contingency support to the 1st Armored Division and other major tenant organizations assigned to Fort Bliss.
Describe your passion for the job
My passion for this job is understanding the acquisition process and educating our customers, requiring activities, units, and Soldiers that we support across Fort Bliss. The better we educate all parties in the acquisition process will eventually help everyone involved to get their requirements on time and on target when needed.
Where do you call home?
I was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas. I joined the Army almost 26 years ago (Reserve and active), serving as an enlisted Soldier for 12 years and still enjoy serving after four combat tours. I'm married to Annette Alonzo Howard from El Paso, Texas. We have two beautiful daughters, Taylor, 9, and Aaliyah, 7. In my spare time I enjoy watching my daughters compete in gymnastics, enjoy running--a passion I picked up later in life--and also completing graduate school with a master's in Procurement and Acquisition Management.
How does your job support the Soldier?
We contract for Soldiers. Every purchase requisition that our office receives supports the Soldiers either directly or indirectly. Whether it's contracting for the dining facility in garrison or latrine support in the field, it's our job to support the Soldiers so they can successfully complete their mission.
What would you like others to know about you?
I truly enjoy this career field as a contracting professional and the rewards that we see daily. Our contracting actions support the day-to-day functions that most people overlook.
