ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md.- A chance to see the Department of Defense headquarters in action was the reality for approximately 30 members of the Army Contracting Command-Aberdeen Proving Ground and the military members of the 926th Contingency Contracting Battalion.

The military and civilian personnel had a day-long visit to the Pentagon May 7.

The day began with a tour of the building, a pictorial history of the armed services and a visit to the 9/11 Memorial Chapel.

The chapel was built at the crash site of the 9/11 terrorist attack to honor the 184 people who lost their lives in the Pentagon and on American Airlines Flight 77, according to Capt. Adam C. Stover, contract specialist.

"The group learned many Pentagon facts including it's the world's largest low-rise office building and it was built in just 16 months," he said. "The trip gave members an opportunity to learn about the DOD headquarters but it also provided valuable professional development."

After the tour, the group had a working lunch presentation by Col. Michael Hoskin, chief of the Operational Contract Support and Services Division for the Joint Staff Directorate for Logistics located in the Pentagon. Hoskin provided an overview of his organizational mission, shared personal experiences and discussed joint training, such as the annual Operational Contract Support Joint Exercise. The OCSJX provides an environment to train and assess operational contract support capabilities.

Maj. Barry Williams, 926th CCBn contracting officer, participated in the most recent OCSJX held in January at Fort Bliss, Texas.

"The exercise and the Pentagon tour both demonstrated the powerful synergy of an integrated force," Williams said.
