BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan--Soldiers from 1011th Quartermaster Co., 82nd Sustainment Brigade CENTCOM Materiel Recovery Element, 82nd Airborne Division, spent about two and a half days cleaning up a 401st Army Field Support Brigade lay down yard May 11-13.
The 1011th Soldiers turned what had become a dump site into bare ground by sorting through piles of equipment, boxes and containers to separate serviceable and unserviceable items. Serviceable equipment items were prepared for transport to the retro-sort yard for further processing and disposition, while the unserviceable was hauled directly to Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services.
"This became a dumping ground for anything and everything -- parts, wire, generators," said Maj. Matthew A. Price, 401st AFSB S4 officer-in-charge.
"We reached out to the 82nd CMRE two days ago, and got a quick turnaround," Price added.
"This is what we do all over Bagram," said Sgt. Brian J. Grisolano, Materiel Recovery Team supervisor.
Grisolano explained that the MRT can speed up the process by taking unserviceable items directly to Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services and taking the serviceable equipment to the retro-sort yard where it will be made available to units.
The 1011th QM Co. is a U.S. Army Reserve unit headquartered in Independence, Kansas.
