May 15, 2014
FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii--Members of the 413th Contracting Support Brigade here got a chance to tell their two senior commanders about contracting operations in the Pacific theater.
Gen. Dennis L. Via, Army Materiel Command commanding general, and Brig. Gen. Ted Harrison, Army Contracting Command commanding general, visited the unit in April.
Via visited on April 10. Col. Martin Zybura, brigade commander, and the 413th staff discussed the unit's mission and how it supports the U.S. Army Pacific and the U.S. Pacific Command, according to Maj. Karl P. Allen, the brigade's chief of operations. The brief included highlights on 413th CSB's support to Phase 0 operations--shaping the environment through interagency and multinational activities, Small Business initiatives, exercise participation and garrison contracting support. Maj. William Griffin and Master Sgt. Larry Metcalf briefed Via about their experiences as contingency contracting officers in the Pacific.
Via stressed the importance of representing the U.S. when CCOs conduct missions in other countries, discussed the importance of exercises not expanding past their exercise objectives, and the importance of small business and garrison operations. He also discussed the reduction of active duty forces and the budget and their affect on AMC.
Harrison visited the brigade April 11. He conducted a town hall meeting where he explained the ACC vision, challenges and philosophy. He also fielded questions from the staff and presented awards to unit personnel.
