PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. (May 9, 2014) -- Officials announced the selection of a new director for the U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center Quality Engineering & System Assurance Directorate.

Since August 2009, John Finno was associate director for integration at the directorate, where he led the organization's core competency improvement efforts, and optimized the directorate's interfaces to the rest of ARDEC and to its customers.

"John has been a key player at ARDEC, leading several strategic initiatives as well as instrumental in developing numerous system quality engineering competencies and supporting our key stakeholders across material enterprises," said ARDEC Technical Director Dr. Gerardo Melendez in announcing the appointment. "John possesses over 24 years of progressive leadership, management and technical experience, and a strong commitment to the ARDEC enterprise. He is an outstanding leader with a great dedication to customer satisfaction and demonstrated ability to collaborate."

Throughout his career, Finno has supported a wide range of Army product lines, and has touched the entire product acquisition life cycle.

He has served as the Quality Engineering Core Competency Dean, member of the Materiel Release Review Board and chairman of its software subgroup.

Finno started his professional career at ARDEC in 1989 as an instrumentation engineer in the Tank Infantry Systems Division. Over the last 24 years, he has held positions as project leader, branch chief of four different branches, and division chief of two QE&SA divisions.

Finno has a master's degree in business administration from the Rutgers University and a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from The University of Tulsa.

He was the winner for the 2009 Federal Executive Board Outstanding Federal Employee. In addition, Finno is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt. He represented the United States on the NATO Life Cycle Management Working Group on Quality.

The U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center is part of the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, which has the mission to develop technology and engineering solutions for America's Soldiers.

RDECOM is a major subordinate command of the U.S. Army Materiel Command. AMC is the Army's premier provider of materiel readiness -- technology, acquisition support, materiel development, logistics power projection, and sustainment -- to the total force, across the spectrum of joint military operations. If a Soldier shoots it, drives it, flies it, wears it, eats it or communicates with it, AMC provides it.
