FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. -- The Army Superior Unit Award (ASUA) was presented on May 5 to the Mission Command Training Program in recognition of its support of the Global War on Terror and operations in support of Homeland Security. This award recognizes the importance of the training Mission Command Training Program provided to army, corps and division and brigade commanders and staffs during fiscal year 2011.

"From operations against a conventional enemy in the late 20th Century to hybrid enemy in the 21st Century, Mission Command Training Program has remained flexible and dedicated to excellence -- consistently delivering world-class training to our Army as its mission continues to evolve in complexity and intensity." said Brig. Gen. Joseph M. Martin, deputy commanding general, Combined Arms Center -- Training. Martin presided over the ceremony, formally presenting the Army Superior Unit Award streamer.

The ASUA recognizes outstanding meritorious performance of a unit during peacetime of a difficult and challenging mission under extraordinary circumstances. The ASUA presented to Mission Command Training Program is in recognition of the service and dedication to duty it took to train commanders and their staffs in preparation for deployments to Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation New Dawn.

Mission Command Training Program supports the collective training of Army units at worldwide locations in order to train leaders and provide commanders the opportunity to train on Mission Command in Unified Land Operations. It provides mission rehearsal exercises for deploying units, and simulated Warfighter Exercises to train the Army's Division and Brigade leadership.
