Sgt. 1st Class Corliwoy Direny, human resources noncommissioned officer, 80th Training Command (TASS), finished the headquarters' second annual Sexual Harassment Assault and Response Prevention 5k run and walk event in 00:22:48, ahead of more than 65 Soldiers, Department of the Army Civilians and family members at the Defense Logistics Agency Compound in Richmond, Va., April 24, 2014.
The run and walk was one of three events the headquarters conducted in observance of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
On April 22 there was an Information Fair at the Defense Supply Center with presenters from organizations that included the Fort Lee SHARP Office, St. Mary's Hospital, and the Chesterfield County Domestic Violence Task Force. Unit members also participated in the15th annual Denim Day April 24 in support of sexual assault survivors, and to bring attention to sexual violence.
SAAM is designed to raise awareness and promote the prevention of sexual assault through the use of special events and public education. Sexual assault is defined as any sexual act directed against another person that is forcible and or against the person's will, to include when that person is unable to give consent.
Direny said he ran most of the event at a moderate pace with the majority of the participants, but his competitive nature kicked in when he saw his friend Sgt. 1st Class Marvin Bueno, 80th TC Provost Marshall's Office, ahead of him.
