USASAC supports sexual assault awareness [Image 1 of 1]

NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. -- Personnel from the U.S. Army Security Assistance Command's office in New Cumberland, Pa., wore blue and teal colors April 10 to show their support of DLA Distribution Susquehanna Pennsylvania's Sexual Assault Awareness Month events.

DDSP SAAM activities encouraged depot employees to wear any shade of blue, for Child Abuse Prevention, or teal, for Sexual Assault Awareness. On the morning of April 10, the gates to DDSP were lit in blue and teal to kick off the day's events and greet employees as they entered the depot.

USASAC NC's participation did not go unnoticed by the DDSP Family Advocacy Program office.

"USASAC staff have been very receptive to the importance of the SAAM and Child Abuse Awareness Month activities here on the depot," Ann Walker, DDSP Family Advocacy manager and Sexual Assault Response coordinator, said. "These opportunities not only get the message out, but gives each person a way to express their concern and awareness for these issues."

SAAM activities are not the limit to USASAC's involvement in DDSP family advocacy programs. Many USASAC employees utilize child care services as well as family care resources in supporting elderly parents.

USASAC NC and DDSP personnel began networking through Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention topics last year. Community resources identified by the DDSP FAP have added to the Army resources for USASAC NC personnel.

This month's activities on the installation included a Children's Art Competition and workshops on child abuse prevention and sexual assault awareness.

"We are working closely with Ms. Walker's staff to ensure that the focus on SHARP and other family related issues are tailored to our USASAC population," Barry Johnson, Sexual Assault Response coordinator at USASAC NC, said. "We are 100 percent civilian, both DA civilian employees and contractors.

"Keeping the training and information on target with purpose for our USASAC NC family is enhanced by partnering with resources and activities offered at the installation level."
