PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. -- The Presidio of Monterey Army Health Clinic officially re-opened the doors of its pediatric clinic in downtown Monterey following a reception and open house April 1. The clinic is located at 880 Cass Street in downtown Monterey in Suite 209.
The renovation of the new pediatric wing of the clinic is a result of feedback from the Presidio of Monterey military community.
Additionally, the clinic staff recently doubled in size to accommodate and better serve an increased volume of patrons.
The open house and invitation to the community allowed patrons to tour the recently renovated facility and learn about enrollment in primary care, which includes the pediatric clinic.
"Most importantly an event like this gives patients the opportunity to meet and speak with pediatric staff," said Emily Ivy, the clinic's supervisory pediatric nurse. "Our approach to care is first and foremost about forming productive partnerships with our patrons, not only with the parents of course, but with the children we treat through their growing years."
"The facility is off-post and self-contained, but otherwise no different from what military families would encounter on any military installation anywhere in the U.S. or overseas," said Ivy. "We are in no way independent from the Presidio of Monterey Army Health Clinic; we have the same high standards and chain of command and use the same forms and documentation."
Today the clinic staff includes two full-time board-certified pediatricians and two registered nurses as well as a highly motivated and knowledgeable support staff. The entire staff prides themselves on being client-focused and attuned to the unique needs of supporting military service members and their families.
The clinic's renovations were not only made to accommodate the increased staff but also to present young patients with a more pleasant, familiar experience the moment they walk through the clinic doors.
Located on the second floor of the Cass building, every room a patient enters in the clinic is full of natural light, and treatment and examination room windows look out on green trees and pleasing Monterey town vistas. Also, the clinic is adorned with bright, colorful original children's art throughout.

"Our goal is to provide the best, full-range quality care and comprehensive support to military families," said Ivy. "We are a modern, state-of-the-art facility, but we're always looking for ways to make and nurture that human connection that is so important to a sick child and a worried parent."
The redecoration of the clinic is just one of the many ways the clinic has strived to make a visit a positive experience for their military patrons. "We are always looking for ways to ease any anxiety that may accompany a patron's visit and make our offices more kid-friendly." said Ivy.
"Military families face difficulties not found amongst those in the general public," said Ivy. "They constantly have to relocate and adjust to new environments. Equally important is to recognize that for over a decade now, military families have had to live with concerns and worries that put them under heavy stresses that the general public can hardly imagine."
Ivy continued, "Consequently, we're always looking for ways to alleviate a parent's worry when they come in with a sick child, as well as that child's anxiety at the prospect of seeing a doctor. Our clinic is like a friend they can turn to."
The clinic is located at 880 Cass Street, Suite 209, in Monterey. Hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m. 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.; the clinic is closed on federal holidays.
The clinic is unable to accept walk-ins, but staff will schedule appointments to fit the needs of patrons whenever possible within business hours. Appointments to visit the clinic can be scheduled by calling 831-646-5113 or 831-646-5350.
