Fiscal 2013 SA/CSA safety award winners announced

FORT RUCKER, Ala. -- The U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center today named winners of the Fiscal 2013 Secretary of the Army and Army Chief of Staff safety awards.

The annual awards are presented to units and individuals for excellence in safety and risk management.

"We have to give credit for these achievements where it's due, to the leaders, Soldiers and Army civilians making safety happen every day, whether in garrison or on the battlefield," said Brig. Gen. Timothy J. Edens, director of Army Safety and commanding general, USACR/Safety Center. "There has never been a time when working to preserve our force has been more important."

According to Department of the Army Pamphlet 385-10, Army Safety Program, both individuals and units must have made significant improvements and contributions to accident prevention efforts, among other criteria, to be considered for an award. Nominations are submitted for actions taken during the preceding fiscal year.

Fiscal 2013's awardees are as follows:

  • SA and CSA Army Headquarters Safety Award: United States Army Reserve Command, Fort Bragg, N.C.
  • SA and CSA Exceptional Organization Safety Award -- Division: Division West, First Army, Fort Hood, Texas, U.S. Army Forces Command
  • SA and CSA Exceptional Organization Safety Award -- Brigade: 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Irwin, Calif., U.S. Army Forces Command
  • SA and CSA Exceptional Organization Safety Award -- Garrison: Red River Army Depot, Texas, U.S. Army Materiel Command
  • SA and CSA Exceptional Organization Safety Award -- Battalion: Special Troops Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C., U.S. Army Forces Command
  • SA and CSA Individual Award of Excellence in Safety -- Officer: Capt. Vladislav Silayev, commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, U.S. Army Garrison -- Yongsan, Korea, U.S. Army Installation Management Command
  • SA and CSA Individual Award of Excellence in Safety -- NCO/Enlisted: Sgt. 1st Class Tony W. Scott, platoon sergeant and additional duty safety officer; John J. Kreckel, Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky., U.S. Army Installation Management Command
  • SA and CSA Individual Award of Excellence in Safety -- Civilian: Mr. William Gibson, Division West, 1st Army Safety Manager, Fort Hood, Texas, U.S. Army Forces Command
  • SA and CSA Industrial Operations Safety Award: Watervliet Arsenal, N.Y., U.S. Army Materiel Command
  • SA and CSA Excellence in Explosives Safety Award: Special Forces Qualification Course, Engineer Sergeant (18C) Committee, U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, Fort Bragg, N.C., U.S. Army Special Operations Command
