USARPAC Sexual Assault Awareness Month Message
April 11, 2014
The Army is committed to the health, safety and well-being of our Soldiers, Families, and Civilian teammates. To emphasize this commitment, the Army and U.S. Army Pacific will observe the national campaign of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) during April 2014. This year the Department of Defense SAAM theme is: "Live Our Values: Step Up to Stop Sexual Assault." Preventing sexual assault requires engaged leadership, vigilance, and commitment. This year's theme embodies the Army Values and Soldier's Creed, and is a reflection of our ethos.
Sexual assaults are violent crimes that are devastating to the victims and stand against everything we represent. Such crimes diminish our mission readiness and undermine the trust of our teammates. Everyone shares responsibility in the preventions and reporting of sexual assaults, and must remain committed to the Army's "I.A.M. Strong" campaign. These efforts require strong leadership, a healthy command climate, adherence to Army Values and respect for the bonds of trust we have forged with all members of our Army Family.
As we observe the month of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention, I challenge each of you to capture the spirit of this campaign and make it your battle-rhythm throughout the year. It is everyone's responsibility to "Intervene, Act, and Motivate" others to prevent sexual harassment and assault.
