TOBYHANNA ARMY DEPOT, Pa. - Ed Traigis (a resident of Gouldsboro), electronics measurement equipment mechanic, calibrates a digital multi-meter. As a member of the Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment Support Center (TSC) here, Traigis and 37 employees provide calibration, repair and metrology support services for customer-owned test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment.

Equipment includes calipers, dial indicators, oscillators, circuit cards, radiac meters (detects radiation) and attenuators (reduce the amplitude or power of a signal). All calibrations and certifications performed are traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

TSC employees support over 27,000 items from more than 200 customers. They perform over 15,000 calibration and 3,500 repair actions each year, using state-of-the-art calibration standards and systems. The center serves customers throughout the nine Northeastern states, with Tobyhanna being its largest customer. Other customers include tenant activities at the depot, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Picatinny and Watervliet Arsenals, as well as Army Reserve, National Guard and Marine Reserve units and other federal agencies.

The center has two labs: Area Calibration (ACL) and Internal Calibration (ICL). Area Calibration Laboratory personnel perform reference level calibration; Internal Calibration Laboratory personnel perform transfer level calibration.

Tobyhanna Army Depot is the Defense Department's largest center for the repair, overhaul and fabrication of a wide variety of electronics systems and components, from tactical field radios to ground terminals for the defense satellite communications network. Tobyhanna's missions support all branches of the Armed Forces.

About 5,900 personnel are employed at Tobyhanna, which is located in the Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania.

Tobyhanna Army Depot is part of the U.S. Army CECOM Life Cycle Management Command. Headquartered at Fort Monmouth, N.J., CECOM's mission is to research, develop, acquire, field and sustain communications, command, control computer, intelligence, electronic warfare and sensors capabilities for the Armed Forces.
