Army announces top journalists, public affairs specialists for 2013

WIESBADEN, Germany -- The Department of the Army, Office of the Chief of Public Affairs, recognized public affairs specialists, print and broadcast journalists for excellence in their career field during the Army-wide 2013 Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ware Public Affairs Competition.

The competition salutes excellence among Soldiers and civilian employees who produce broadcast programming, print articles, photographs, graphic art, Web-based products and community relations programs to inform and entertain the Army audience.

Staff Sgt. Jose Ibarra, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, was named the John T. Anderson Military Broadcast Journalist of the Year and also won the Audio Features Report (Individual Category) for his piece, "Islamic Center."

The annual contest is named for Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ware, a World War II Medal of Honor recipient and former Army Chief of Information who was killed in action in Vietnam.

The U.S. Army will compete with its sister services in the Department of Defense Thomas Jefferson Awards Program later this year. The program recognizes military and civilian employee print and broadcast journalists for outstanding achievements in furthering the objectives of the DOD Internal Information Program.
