FORT A.P. HILL, Va. - 642nd Engineer Company Soldiers from Fort Drum, N.Y. continued to work on construction projects at Fort A.P. Hill, Va.
To date the Engineers have torn down an old prisoner of war training camp and collected old concertina wire at the site. Later they installed a new state of the art security gate.
Their latest projects include installing another security gate and improving the drainage at a demolitions range. When the demolition range project is finished the new drainage system will mitigate the effects of storm water run-off into a nearby sensitive wetland.
The construction jobs have helped the Engineer Soldiers learn new skills including operating heavy construction equipment and performing tasks they may not have done in the past.
The Engineers have helped Fort A.P. Hill by completing necessary construction projects at a low cost to the installation.
The 642nd Engineer Company will be at Fort A.P. Hill until mid-April and then will return to Drum.
