409th Contracting Support Brigade welcomes new command sergeant major

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany-Members of the 409th Contracting Support Brigade welcomed their new command sergeant major during a change of responsibility ceremony here Feb. 26.

Command Sgt. Maj. Leatrice Person succeeded Command Sgt. Maj. Bentura Fernandez as the 409th CSB command sergeant major.

During the ceremony Col. William J. Bailey, 409th CSB commander, passed the traditional noncommissioned officer sword to Person, a symbol of the authority of the NCO.

Fernandez will retire after 29 years of military service.

Person comes to the 409th CSB from the 419th CSB, Fort Bragg, N.C.

"This isn't my first time in Germany, but it feels like it is, and I am so excited and really look forward to working with all of you," Person remarked during the ceremony. "My focus is to be a great leader, mentor, and motivator and provide guidance and support. I look forward to making this a better brigade and being part of the 409th team."

A native of Kinston, N.C., Person has served in a number of leadership positions. She completed two overseas tours in Germany, two deployments for Operation Joint Endeavor in Bosnia, one deployment for Operation Enduring Freedom in Kuwait, and two deployments for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
