PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. -- Picatinny Arsenal will observe National Suicide Prevention Week Sept. 7 - 13.

Additionally, the installation will observe World Suicide Prevention Day Sept. 10.

Picatinny Arsenal leadership remains committed to the safety and well-being of the community Soldiers, civilians and family members. This is reflected by joining the nation and Department of Defense in observing these very important events and bringing attention to suicide prevention and awareness.

The Army's theme this year is Shoulder-to-Shoulder: No Soldier Stands Alone. This theme conveys the idea that we are all stronger together, especially when times are tough. We must all remember that sometimes the toughest moments we face are not on the battlefield, but off the battlefield.

This year's theme reminds us that each one of us needs to rely on the values that have made our organization great - doing the right thing for our battle buddies, coworkers and family members; selfless service; integrity and personal courage; and taking the extra effort to recognize risk factors and warning signs of potential suicidal behavior.

Finally, we must all ensure that when we see a fellow Soldier, coworker, family member or friend stumbling, we have the courage and willingness to reach out and share our strength as an Army family.

Together, we will make it through any tough times that come our way.

All community members are invited to join me and the Employees Assistance Program coordinator during a meet-and-greet outreach at Choices 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 18.

The outreach will include prevention and awareness information as well as helpline information.
