During a visit to the U.S. Army Information Systems Engineering Command, or ISEC, four foreign liaison officers, FLOs from Germany, France and Korea and assigned to the U.S. Army Intelligence Center of Excellence and Fort Huachuca, took a tour of the facilities and enjoyed lunch with Col. Patrick Kerr, ISEC commander, Command Sgt. Maj. Brenda Kadet, ISEC command sergeant major, and their staff, Feb. 26.
Lt. Col. Seunghoon Lee, Lt. Col. Yannick LeGrand, Lt. Col. Hans-Joerg Trossen, and Sgt. Maj. Hans-Joerg Fischer are assigned here to serve as the liaison between their country?'s armies and the U.S. Army. For all four FLOs, this was their first visit to ISEC. Master Sgt. Christopher Paluzzi, senior signal operations noncommissioned officer, ISEC, explained that the visit was requested by Kerr as a form of community outreach, showing the foreign liaisons what ISEC is all about.
The group met Kerr and Kadet outside of Greely Hall, ISEC headquarters, and took a short walk to the Technology Integration Center, or TIC, where Albert Rivera, ISEC technical director, greeted them. Rivera introduced the officers to the role of ISEC, explaining how the organization performs many functions including engineering, installing, testing and systems integration for communications and automation systems all throughout the Army.
Next, Rivera talked about the history of ISEC, its organizational structure and their different missions. He also explained the current projects underway in the main areas such as infrastructure, enterprise, information assurance and testing.
Following the presentation, Janet Forbes, a senior systems engineer, led the officers on a walking tour of the TIC, stopping in the Wireless Lab and the Unified Capabilities Lab where they received a first-hand view of the testing process.
After the command briefing and walking tour, the group moved back over to Greely Hall where Kerr guided them around the headquarters offices and introduced more of his staff. Over a barbeque lunch, the group enjoyed casual conversation and learned more of everyone?'s unique culture.
As a token of their appreciation, Kerr and Kadet presented each of the FLOs with a framed letter of gratitude for their visit and an ISEC coin.
The feedback from the FLOs was positive. They appreciated the hospitality received at both of the locations, the organization of information and the opportunity to meet with ISEC?'s senior leaders.
?"The presentations were really good and I now have a better idea of what ISEC is," said LeGrand, who has been assigned to Fort Huachuca for three years. ?"Everything was interesting but I would like to emphasize the passion of the people working under the great leadership of Col. Kerr. Moreover, this visit was really well organized especially thanks to the work of Mr. John Contevita, now retired."
Lee explained that he enjoyed the overview brief which provided such an abundance of useful information. ?"To me, it was a fresh idea that a commercial concept was and could be applied to a military unit and be successful. And of course, that the majority was Civilian staff," Lee said. ?"This could be a good example of cooperation between the military and industry."
?"This simple, yet important, exchange of information with professional diplomats was long overdue," Kerr said. ?"The opportunity to host our international friends at ISEC was a great experience had by all that we plan to cultivate."
