CAMP HENRY, Republic of Korea --The 403rd Army Field Support Brigade participated extensively during the Key Resolve/Foal Eagle 14 exercises from Feb. 23 to March 6.
The brigade conducted split-based operations by sending the 403rd AFSB's William Hanlin, logistics maintenance specialist planner, to the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command's command post as a liaison officer replicating its forward element while using the Brigade Operations and Information Center at Camp Henry, Daegu, as the 403rd AFSB unit's anchor for operations in the southern portion of the country.
The 403rd AFSB is one of seven brigades under the Army Sustainment Command. The ASC is headquartered at Rock Island Arsenal, Ill.
The ASC supports Army and joint forces in support of the combat commanders around the world. Like all of its AFSBs, the 403rd is a mission-focused and modular unit, organized to place logistics power forward to every element of the expeditionary Army.
Key Resolve is largely a computer-simulated exercise, while the eight-week Foal Eagle exercise involves air, ground and naval field training between the ROK and the U.S. Combined Forces Command.
The 19th ESC's role during Key Resolve brought key leaders to Daegu to observe the unit's critical peninsula-wide tactical and strategic logistics operations and noncombatant evacuation operations.
Additionally, the 403rd AFSB's subordinate battalions, Brigade Logistics Support Teams, Logistics Capabilities Teams, and other enablers were integrated with a diverse group of tactical units and headquarters elements positioned throughout the peninsula.
For the 403rd AFSB, these exercises test its ability to perform its mission in a simulated wartime environment. The brigade also brought in augmentees from the U.S. to supplement its workforce which added to the mission's success.
